Many male fertility issues go undiagnosed or untreated due to misconceptions such as the belief that infertility affects only females, and fewer male infertility specialists (andrologists). In Bangalore, malefactors are present in 40 to 45% of infertile couples. The majority (46%) of male infertility cases in Bangalore are between the ages 29 and 35. A condition known as infertility is defined as a disorder of the reproductive system. This causes couples to have difficulty conceiving a child after having sex for up to one year.

Male infertility is when the male reproductive system has problems that make it difficult for the couple to have a child. One in five infertile couples is caused by a male partner. Most couples who experience problems with fertility can find an explanation. Low sperm count, poor fertility, low sperm motility, and hormonal imbalances can all be the causes of infertility. The appropriate treatment can be determined once the cause of infertility has been established. But, it was not always possible to determine the cause of infertility. Up until today, almost a third of couples would not know the cause of infertility. This led to a diagnosis of “unexplained fertility” for these couples.

Signs and Symptoms of Male Infertility

There may not be any specific symptoms of male infertility other than the inability to get pregnant if a couple tries. An extensive medical and urologic history should be taken, including the duration of infertility and when it occurred. Also, any childhood urologic conditions or procedures that were performed, as well as sexual history, testicular cancer treatment, and medications. This is necessary for diagnosing male infertility.

Male Infertility: Causes

Female infertility accounts for around 15-20% of males.AzoospermiaI.e. absence of viable semen. Sometimes, though men can produce sufficient sperms, the quality of these sperms is not good enough. This can cause difficulties in conception. Fertilization cannot take place if sperm can’t reach the egg and penetrate its outer layer. Sperms that aren’t able to move or are unusually shaped might not be able to fertilize.  Acute infections, such as smallpox and mumps, and chronic infections, like TB, leprosy, or prostatitis are some of the most common causes of male infertility. Varicocele is another common problem that can be reversed. It’s an enlargement in the veins that affects sperm growth and wraps around the testicles. This condition affects between 15 and 20 percent of infertile males. It is also common to have congenital obstructions, vasectomy, and other sexual dysfunctions.

Lifestyle factors include age, delay in marriage, diet, lack of exercise, stress at work, and exposure to environmental pollutants. Infertility Can also be caused by lifestyle factors such as age, delayed marriages, nutrition, lack of regular exercise, stress at work, and exposure to environmental pollutants. Men’s fertility can be negatively affected by their habits of smoking and drinking. Fertility can also be affected by obesity and diabetes that are not well controlled.

Lubricants: Lubricants can be used to make sex more enjoyable, but research has shown that many brand-name condoms and lubricants, including condoms that contain grease, have been found to decrease sperm mobility.

Caffeinated beverages

Caffeinated drinks may lead to infertility and hinder male fertility. A study found that men who consume more than three cups of tea per day have a lower fertility rate.

Smoking

The decrease in sperm count and motility of males who smoke is well-known. This can lead to a decrease in sperm concentration, and male infertility.

Exercise

There have been many health benefits associated with exercising. It has been shown that certain types of exercise can have a negative impact on the male reproductive system. For the semen parameters, strenuous exercise can have a negative impact on the long term. Resistance exercise can lead to a decrease in testosterone, which increases the chance of male infertility.

Heat Exposition

Extreme temperatures can cause the heating of the testicles. This can lead to a decrease in sperm health, and increase the likelihood of infertility.

Management of Male Infertility Risk Factors

A specialist medical practitioner can reverse the increased risk of male infertility.

What Male Fertility Tests are Done

It is mandatory that both partners are examined during any fertility check-up. A thorough medical history is required for a male fertility assessment. After a period of abstinence for 2-5 days, a semen analysis should be performed in an IVF laboratory. It will examine the motility, count, and morphology of the sperm. The results can be repeated after a gap between 2 and 3 weeks if they are abnormal. If abnormalities are detected, hormone profile, DNA fragmentation, and scrotal scanning with Doppler are performed. If the patient is receiving treatment, a semen analysis will be repeated every three months.

Infertility is a serious problem that couples should try to solve together. Ob-gyms treat women’s reproductive issues, but treatment for men with infertility should be based on test results and consultation with andrologists. There are many options available depending on the severity and cause of the condition.

What is the importance of sperm count in reproduction?

One in five couples will experience infertility. The male is responsible for 45% of all couples experiencing infertility. The production and transfer of sperm is a major factor in male infertility. Healthy sperm will eliminate the possibility of abnormal sperms, and thus make you more fertile. Low sperm count, blocked sperm counts and abnormally shaped or shaped sperms are the main causes of male infertility. Oligospermia is a condition that produces low levels of sperm cells. The more severe it is the less likely an individual will be able to father a child. According to estimates, healthy men may have as many as 100 million sperm cells. High sperm counts can also decrease the chance of having problems with conception. High sperm counts increase the chances of an egg being fertilized by sperm. For a healthy reproductive system, it is vital to increase your sperm count.

Sperm Count Testing is important

The semen analysis or sperm count test measures the viability and health of sperm cells within an individual. Three main factors are considered when performing a semen analysis:

·       The number of sperm

·       The shape of sperm

·       Sperm motility

When a couple has fertility problems, semen analysis is often recommended. This test can check for male fertility and determine the cause of low sperm counts if they exist. To get accurate set information, two to three semen samples are examined. The importance of semen analysis is essential to ensure that the sperms remain healthy and that the body is fertile.
